Improvement of the metadata base for the infrastructure of spatial data on glaciers

Reporter: Kitov A.

Existing glaciers catalog do not correspond to the modern representation of data in electronic form. Electronic database (DB) of glaciers of SNG in the format World Glacier Inventory (WGI), integrated into the international database (World Data Center on Glaciology), actually repeats the information from paper catalogs of the USSR. This first step is undoubtedly necessary and useful, but it requires further development in the key spatial data infrastructure (SDI), taking into account modern research using remote sensing (RS), the development of Internet and geoportals GIS and GPS- Measurement. The existing catalog contains 20 fields of glaciers attributes that characterize the existing glaciers. In the first stage is advisable to use a unique code (name) of the glacier as a binding key to expand and refine the characteristics of the glacier. As a result of this code will be associated traditional attributes of the database (catalog), and more. Such as: refined attributes, references to graphical objects, attributes and references of expansion. "Refined attributes" will more accurately indicate the coordinates of the center of the glacier, the name of the glacier, to clarify some details, or add value if they were not previously known at the time when the component source catalog. Attributes "References to graphical objects" will show on the appropriate link in geoportal glacier, for example, Google Earth (format kml), as well as show the current map-type, stage of change over the years, visualizing remote sensing data and other graphical presentations and diagrams. "Attributes and expand links" are the results of recent studies that show the current state of glaciers, the reconstructed data, dynamics and forecasts of nival-glacial Geosystems and others. Update existing database structure refined with modern performance, the parameters for different time stages of the study nival-glacial objects, including those obtained by remote sensing data, as well as support for geospatial imaging and maps will allow more detailed analysis and forecast changes in mountain landscapes and climate as an example of such mountain ranges as Kodar, Baikalsky, Barguzinsky, Munku-Sardyk. On the example of typical glaciers of these mountains presents the dynamics of their changes, trends, and built a forecast probable degradation and stabilization of the nival-glacial objects. Offered examples of the database structure and content changes.
