FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

The 4th International Conference on Conservation of Forest Genetic Resources in Siberia

August 24-29, 2015
Barnaul, Russia

Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) on Forest, Russian Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz), Russian Federal Forest Protection Center (Roslesozashchita), Scientific Council of the RAS on Genetics and Breeding, Vavilov Society of Geneticists and Breeders (VOGiS), International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), V. N. Sukachev Institute of Forest of the Siberian Branch (SB) of the RAS, N. I. Vavilov Institute of General Genetics of the RAS, Altai Natural Resources and Ecology Agency, Altai Forestry Agency, Altai Forest Protection Center, Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, Altai State Agrarian University, Siberian Federal University, University of Göttingen (Germany), and Institute of Computational Technologies of the SB of the RAS organize

the 4th International Conference on Conservation of Forest Genetic Resources in Siberia.

The conference will be held on August 24-29, 2015 at the forest tree improvement facilities of the Altai Region in Barnaul, Russia.

This conference is timely and important due to a huge biospheric role that Siberian boreal forest plays in global climate regulation and biogeochemical cycles. Despite this significant role there are still insufficient knowledge about the population genetic structure of the Siberian boreal forest and how it is affected by wildfires, anthropogenic effects (pollution, logging, etc.) and global climate change. New approaches based on the synthesis of traditional and modern molecular genetics and genomics methods are needed to develop efficient conservation and sustainable management program, to protect and monitor forest genetic potential and at the same time to increase forest productivity and resilience, including plantation forests.

The conference will continue the good traditions established by the previous conferences held in 2007 in Barnaul, 2009 in Novosibirsk and 2011 in Krasnoyarsk with a main objective of developing an efficient scientific strategy on protection and sustainable use of the forest genetic resources in Siberia, Ural Mountain and Far East.
